Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Companies House has announced that it will automatically extend the deadlines for certain key
statutory filing events, such as the annual confirmation statement and the company annual accounts. This allows businesses to
focus their efforts to keep operating.
Previously the three-month filing extension had to be claimed in advance, this has now changed, allowing more companies to get an extension. If your company’s filing deadline falls any time from 27 June 2020 to 5 April 2021 you will get an extension to file your annual accounts and confirmation statement. You can check your company’s renewed annual accounts deadlines from Companies House search register .
Accounts filing obligation | Normal deadline (following date of the end of your accounting period) | COVID deadline |
Private Limited Company (LTD) | 9 months | 12 months |
Limited liability partnership (LLP) | 9 months | 12 months |
Confirmation Statement | 14 days | 42 days |
Annual Accounts Deadline Extension for First Accounts
Private companies annual accounts deadline for those whose first accounts cover a period of 12 months or less will be extended from 9 months to 12 months if they haven’t received a previous extension. If the first accounts cover more than 12 months, the new filing deadline for private companies will be 24 months from the date of incorporation or 3 months from the accounting reference date – whichever is longer.
Important Information
This is a temporary measure and will not be extended for the filing deadlines after 6 April 2021. You must apply for an extension if your company’s filing deadline falls on 6 April 2021 or later, and you need more time to file your accounts.
It is also important to note that the extensions are applied to your company’s original filing deadline and are not added to the extensions that have been previously granted to you by the Companies House.
