From now on Latvian citizens can register their Estonian company online by using their ID cards. This is possible thanks to the cooperation between the Estonian and Latvian Business Registries.
Latvia is the fifth country whose electronic signature the Company Registration Portal recognizes. Citizens from Finland, Belgium, Portugal and Lithuania are also welcome to establish their Estonian business with their ID card and not only. The citizens of the above mentioned five countries have access to all the same services as the Estonian ID card owners: sign petitions and documents electronically, transmit the signed documents electronically to the Estonian Business Register, submit annual year reports to the Register.
According to the Estonian Business Register over 3,000 Latvian citizens are currently connected with Estonian businesses or non-profit organizations.
Registering an Estonian company
Starting a business in Estonia is simple. A person who is Latvian citizen and owns Latvian ID card can go to the Estonian Business Register’s Company Registration Portal (https://ettevotjaportaal.rik.ee/) and start registering an Estonian company. The site is in English and easy to use.
Submission of registration application in Company Registration Portal consists of five steps: preparation, signing, payment of share capital and state fee, and submission. Share capital and state fee can be paid through portal during submission of application.
The Company Registration Portal enables to register private limited company, sole proprietor, limited partnership, general partnership and non-profit associations online. The most popular type is private limited company. To understand better which business form suits best your needs, read more from this article: What are the primary forms of business in Estonia?
Important to know before starting the registration process:
- To register an Estonian company you need to have an Estonian address. It is not allowed to register P.O. box as an address.
- Minimum amount of share capital depends on company type, in case of private limited company capital must be at least 2,500 euros.
- The state fee for registering a company online is 190 euros. The state fee can later be recognized as a business expense as the costs of establishing the private limited company.
- All persons related to the company (Board Members, founders, etc.) have to have either an Estonian, Portuguese, Belgian, Finnish, Lithuanian or Latvian ID card, or Estonian or Lithuanian mobile ID, or Estonian e-Residency card.
If you register your company electronically, it can be established in just a few hours in the best case; still, budget one business day.
