Once you have established a company it might happen that after some time you want to change the name of it. It is possible and in the following article we explain how to do it.
You can change the registered name of a private limited company any time after Incorporation. This can be done in one of two ways. The company can either pass a special resolution at a board meeting or in the case of most contractor limited companies, all shareholders can sign a written special resolution.
Once you have passed the special resolution you would need to inform Companies House of the change. This is done via completing and submitting the NM01 form (Notice of change of name by resolution) form to Companies House as well as sending the correct processing fee.
You will be asked to provide the following information:
- Original company name in full
- Company number
- New company name
- Special Resolution
- Authorising signature(s)
Don’t forget to check that your new company name is available before submitting the NM01 form otherwise it will be rejected. You can check if the name is available on the Companies House Beta website.
